Blogger party (um, a real-life one, not virtual)
We were all supposed to get assignments on what to blog about after the party, but no one managed to take the initiative to actually assign everyone something, so I'll self-elect to do my random bits of reporting. Joanne and I came a little too fashionably late, so we only made it to the Revolution Cafe and afterwards, but I had an awesome time. Following Sunny's lead: What you missed last night at the Pinoy Blogger Holiday Par-tay:
- The DIY eyebrows (Ver and Joanne) versus the "done" eyebrows (Barbara Jane and me). The result was a draw. Our brows all looked damned pretty, although perhaps Ver and Joanne have one up on us because they have some extra bills in their pocketbooks!
- Barb getting happy drunk soon after her man, the lovely Oscar, literally came from the airport to meet us at the Revolution Cafe, luggage and all.
- My waxing ecstatic about Jean's dissertation, the first chapter of which I had the privilege of reading.
- Marianne's rather horrifying stories of her near-brush with plastic surgery at 16. (What were her parents thinking!)
- A discussion with Sunny about recent Fil Am community theater productions and the intricacies of critically reviewing such productions when one is considered a part of that community. [Yes, brain food, but with heart.]
- Finding out that I used to go to college with Irene's brother, Jay. In fact, he and I did PCN together my freshman year!
- The delicious super nachos at a great little taqueria on Mission and 22nd, with the intensely spicy pica.
- Oh, and some people sharing a little too much after many glasses of sangria and beer, but I can't say any more than that!
The reason for Joanne's and my lateness was that we had dinner after her trend show at Nordstrom with her older sister, Tina, and a few friends from her PhD program, Ethel, Jennifer, and Amy. The company was wonderful, and, I must say, that garlic/olive/raspberry dressing that came with my club sandwich and fries was amazing. Joanne had also given me a mild peel and done my makeup (beautifully, if I do say so myself) while I was on her chair, so I was feeling pretty pampered and happy already.
And, can you believe it, it was Joanne's birthday yesterday! And instead of spending the day pampering herself, she worked at the crazy-busy trend show at Nordstrom pampering other people (although I suppose I would be scolding her a little more if she weren't so good at her job -- it was lovely!). And a mere fifteen days away from Christmas... Hay naku!
Anyway, I don't know why I haven't done this before, but after meeting them last night and seeing for myself how kind and wonderful they are, I simply must put them on my blog list. So, without further ado, I'm adding two poets, Intuitive Intertextuality (Oscar) and Transmitting Live from Somewhere (Anthem).
